DJ Chicken Released From Detention After Meeting Bail Conditions

Controversial Nigerian content creator and TikTok personality DJ Chicken, whose real name is Ademola Abiodun, has been released from detention after fulfilling the bail conditions imposed by a Lagos Magistrate Court. His lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, confirmed the development on Tuesday, expressing gratitude in a social media post, while human rights activist Omoyele Sowore also announced the release, stating that DJ Chicken had reunited with his family, friends and supporters.

DJ Chicken was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after being arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on alleged violations of the Cybercrimes Act, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and alleged threats to kill Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu. The charges stemmed from a viral video in which he allegedly threatened Seyi Tinubu while commenting on the 2027 presidential election.

During the court proceedings, DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all charges. The court granted him ₦1 million bail with two sureties in like sum, directing that one surety must be a civil servant while the other must be a community leader with landed property in Lagos State. He remained in custody until the bail conditions were met.

Before his arrest, DJ Chicken had publicly retracted the controversial statement, insisting it was intended as a joke to attract attention and that he had no intention of harming anyone. Shortly after regaining his freedom, he appeared in an Instagram livestream from a vehicle alongside his lawyer, smiling and interacting with followers. His case is expected to continue in court as legal proceedings move forward.
