La Liga President Calls on FIFA's Infantino to Resign

La Liga President Javier Tebas has called on FIFA President Gianni Infantino to step down, accusing him of damaging the sport through poor governance and controversial decisions. Tebas criticised FIFA's proposal to expand the 2030 FIFA World Cup to 64 teams, describing the idea as unnecessary and harmful to the football calendar. He also raised concerns over the scheduling of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, saying it places excessive demands on players and domestic competitions.

According to Tebas, FIFA's growing focus on commercial expansion has come at the expense of player welfare and the interests of domestic leagues. He argued that football authorities should prioritise protecting existing competitions rather than introducing more tournaments that increase fixture congestion and place additional strain on clubs and players.

The La Liga chief said confidence in FIFA's leadership has declined under Infantino and insisted that new leadership is needed to restore trust and improve cooperation between football's governing bodies. Tebas has been one of Infantino's most outspoken critics in recent years, frequently opposing FIFA's plans for tournament expansion and governance reforms.

FIFA has not formally responded to Tebas' latest remarks. However, Infantino continues to enjoy strong support from many national football associations despite increasing criticism from several European football leaders over the direction of the global game.
