Ten Nations Eye 2030 FIFA World Cup Return

Following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, attention has already turned to the 2030 edition, with several nations aiming to make a successful return after missing out on recent tournaments or falling short of expectations. FIFA highlighted 10 countries with the talent, experience and long-term development plans needed to mount strong comebacks on football's biggest stage.

Among the teams identified are Italy, four-time world champions who have now missed three consecutive World Cups, and Belgium, whose golden generation failed to qualify for the 2026 tournament. Other nations on the list include Chile, Peru, Nigeria, Ghana, Algeria, Qatar, China and Finland, all of whom are expected to begin rebuilding with an eye on qualifying for the centenary edition of the competition.

FIFA noted that several of these countries boast promising young players, experienced coaches and ambitious football development programmes capable of driving a resurgence over the next four years.
