Nnamdi Kanu's Lawyer Threatens Legal Action Over Death Call

The legal team representing Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has threatened legal action over comments made by a man identified as Chigozie Nnabugwu, who allegedly called on the Federal Government to kill the detained separatist leader during a live television interview. The lawyers described the remarks as unlawful, reckless and a direct threat to Kanu's life.

In a statement issued by Kanu's Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, the legal team said the comments amounted to a call for extrajudicial killing and were capable of inciting violence and disrupting public order. The lawyers argued that such statements could violate provisions of the Cybercrimes Act and other relevant laws relating to incitement and threats to life.

The legal team demanded an immediate public retraction from Nnabugwu and an unreserved apology from the television station that aired the interview. It also warned that the station could face regulatory sanctions for broadcasting content capable of encouraging unlawful acts and threatening public peace.

Ejimakor further maintained that calling for Kanu's execution while his legal proceedings remain before the courts amounts to interference with the judicial process. He disclosed that the statement serves as a pre-action notice and that legal proceedings would commence if the demands for a retraction and apology are not met.
