Wike-Backed Camp Initiates Reconciliation Moves Toward Bode George, Party Elders

In a strategic bid to consolidate its operational grip on the state’s party apparatus, the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has launched fresh reconciliation overtures targeting Chief Bode George and other prominent foundational elders in Lagos. This political maneuver represents a major tactical shift following months of intense internal warfare, litigation, and mutual disciplinary declarations between opposing interest camps within the opposition party.

Sources close to the state working committee indicate that the Wike-backed loyalists are seeking to build a unified front ahead of upcoming local government and national congresses, recognizing that a protracted battle with the party's elder statesmen could severely hinder their regional relevance.

The outreach comes against a backdrop of deep structural fragmentation that has historically paralyzed the Lagos chapter of the party:

  • Seeking Legitimacy: Leaders within the pro-Wike structure are actively reaching across the aisle to engage Chief Bode George, a former National Deputy Chairman of the PDP. The group aims to temper the fallout from recent high-profile internal splits, positioning their movement as an inclusive effort to rebuild the party from the grassroots up.
  • The History of Disaccord: The reconciliation drive faces a steep climb due to deep-seated political grievances. Different factions within the state have previously traded hostile administrative maneuvers—including filing lawsuits, challenging the validity of court judgments monitored across state lines, and declaring reciprocal expulsions of national and regional party heads.
  • Competing Claims to Leadership: Simultaneously, alternative leadership blocs within Lagos—including stakeholders allied with former gubernatorial candidate Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor)—continue to dispute the legitimacy of the pro-Wike executive. They argue that any valid reorganization must follow strict statutory procedures rather than selective factional agreements.

Despite these underlying tensions, emissaries from the pro-Wike faction have intensified their closed-door consultations. They maintain that stabilizing relations with the founding fathers is a critical prerequisite for presenting a formidable opposition presence in Lagos State moving forward.
