Super Eagles Shift Focus to Poland Clash Following Unity Cup Triumph
After winning the Unity Cup, a depleted Super Eagles side heads to Warsaw to face Poland in an international friendly as both nations look to rebuild.
Fresh from retaining their Unity Cup title in London, Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set to continue their international preparations with an away friendly against Poland.
Eric Chelle’s men head into the fixture brimming with confidence after a convincing 3-0 victory over Jamaica on Saturday. The result extended the team's impressive unbeaten streak under the Malian manager.
With both nations having missed out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, this fixture serves as a vital rebuilding opportunity. Both managers are looking to experiment and assess their squads as a new tournament cycle begins.
Coach Chelle is expected to use the match to further evaluate his squad, which saw several fresh faces make a strong impression during the Unity Cup though they will be without Femi Azeez, who is sidelined with an injury.
The Super Eagles will also be missing marquee forwards Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman. Osimhen has been excused from international duty to sort out his club future, whilst Lookman has been rested following a grueling and exhausting domestic season. Despite these absences, experienced Premier League and European regulars like Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Calvin Bassey are tipped to feature.
Poland, meanwhile, enter the match under mounting pressure after suffering consecutive defeats to Ukraine and Sweden. However, the hosts are still expected to field a formidable line-up featuring star striker Robert Lewandowski, alongside Jakub Kiwior and Matty Cash.
