WAEC Explains Delay In Mathematics, Agricultural Science Papers
WAEC says delays in Mathematics and Agricultural Science papers were caused by logistical challenges, including a fatal accident that claimed three staff members transporting examination materials, disrupting distribution schedules.
The West African Examinations Council has explained the delay in the conduct of Mathematics and Agricultural Science papers in some centres during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), attributing it to logistical and operational disruptions.
Head of the Public Affairs Department, Moyosola Adesina, issued the clarification in a statement on Monday, noting that the setback was caused by unforeseen challenges affecting the distribution of examination materials.
According to the council, a major factor responsible for the disruption was a tragic motor accident involving staff members responsible for transporting sensitive examination materials across states.
The statement revealed that three personnel lost their lives in the accident, which significantly affected the planned timetable for the delivery and administration of examination papers.
WAEC said the incident disrupted its logistics chain, forcing adjustments that led to delays in some centres while efforts were made to ensure the integrity and security of the examination process.
The council expressed condolences to the families of the deceased staff members and assured stakeholders that measures were being taken to prevent a recurrence of such incidents in future examinations.
It further stated that it remains committed to maintaining the credibility, fairness, and smooth conduct of the WASSCE despite operational challenges.
WAEC also urged candidates, parents, and schools to remain calm, noting that arrangements had been made to ensure all affected papers are properly rescheduled and conducted without disadvantage to candidates.
