Man City Welcome Six Stars Back Ahead of Arsenal Community Shield Clash
Manchester City have welcomed six senior players, including Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku, back into training ahead of Sunday's Community Shield clash with Arsenal in Cardiff.
Manchester City have received a major boost ahead of their FA Community Shield clash with Arsenal after six senior players returned to training at the City Football Academy on Wednesday.
The returning players reported back following their post-World Cup breaks as new manager Enzo Maresca continued preparations for his first competitive domestic fixture in charge of City.
Among those back in training were Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku, Elliot Anderson, Marc Guehi, Nico O’Reilly and Rayan Cherki.
Their return gives Maresca a stronger squad ahead of Sunday's meeting with Arsenal at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. The match is scheduled for August 16.
City have also confirmed several squad-number changes ahead of the new season. Anderson will wear No.5, Guehi No.6 and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma No.1.
However, Rodri was absent from Wednesday's training session. The midfielder is reportedly recovering from minor back surgery following the World Cup, while speculation continues over his future at the club.
The Community Shield will provide Maresca with his first competitive test as City manager and an early opportunity to assess his returning stars ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
