Kebbi Govt Confirms Killing of 10 Police Officers in Gun Battle With Terrorists

Kebbi confirms 10 police officers were killed fighting terrorists, while 17 attackers reportedly died during the gun battle.

The Kebbi State Government has confirmed the killing of 10 police officers and other victims during a gun battle with terrorists along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area.

Governor Nasir Idris described the incident as a painful loss, saying the officers were killed while defending residents and protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria.

The governor disclosed the casualties at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi when a delegation from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, led by Deputy Inspector-General Umar Dada, paid a condolence visit.

Idris said 17 terrorists were also killed during the confrontation with security personnel.

He commiserated with the Nigeria Police Force, the families of the deceased officers and the people of Kebbi State, assuring the bereaved families of continued government support.

“I want to condole the IGP and the entire Nigeria Police Force over the sudden death of these officers,” the governor said.

He added that it was the tradition of the Kebbi State Government to support families of security personnel who die in the line of duty.

The governor said the officers were deployed to the area as part of coordinated efforts to confront terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities threatening communities in the state.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the police and other security agencies to restore lasting peace across Kebbi.

Police Vow to Prosecute Attackers

Speaking during the visit, DIG Umar Dada conveyed the condolences of the Inspector-General of Police to the governor, the people of Kebbi and the families of the fallen officers.

Dada assured the state government that the police would intensify efforts to identify, track, arrest and prosecute those responsible for the attack.

He also commended the Kebbi State Government for its support and cooperation with security agencies.

The DIG disclosed that a police squadron would soon be established in Kebbi State to strengthen police presence, improve operational capacity and enhance the protection of lives and property.

The delegation’s visit followed the deadly confrontation at Rafin Makuku, where the 10 officers and other victims lost their lives while engaging the terrorists.
