Corinthians Broke Agreement, Depay Fumes Over Contract U-Turn

Netherlands forward Memphis Depay has expressed frustration with Brazilian club Corinthians after claiming the club failed to honour an agreement to extend his contract for another two years.

Depay said he was “very disappointed” after learning that Corinthians had decided not to proceed with the renewal, which he said had been agreed upon by the club’s president as well as its sporting, legal and financial departments.

The former Barcelona and Manchester United forward joined Corinthians in 2024 and helped the club win the Brazilian Cup last year.

Depay said he had always respected Corinthians but felt compelled to protect his interests following the club’s decision.

He warned that he would speak publicly about the dispute in the coming days and said he would not allow what he described as unacceptable treatment to go unchallenged.

Corinthians, however, said its decision not to extend the contract was based on financial considerations.
