Security Personnel Foil Attempted Bandits’ Attack on NIPSS in Plateau
Security personnel repelled suspected bandits attempting to breach NIPSS in Plateau, forcing them to flee without casualties as authorities intensify security around strategic national institutions after recent threats.
Security personnel have foiled an attempted attack by suspected bandits on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 1:30 a.m. when security operatives on duty detected suspicious movements around the perimeter of the institute, prompting an immediate response that forced the suspected attackers to flee the area.
According to a report by Leadership, the prompt intervention by the security personnel prevented the intruders from gaining access to the institution.
No casualties were recorded during the operation, while activities at the prestigious policy institute continued without disruption after the incident.
The attempted intrusion comes less than two weeks after another security scare at the institute, which prompted the Federal Government to order a comprehensive review of security arrangements at NIPSS and other strategic national institutions across the country.
During a recent visit to the institute, Vice President Kashim Shettima reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening security around critical national assets.
He said measures being implemented include enhanced surveillance systems, improved perimeter fencing, stricter access control procedures and increased deployment of security personnel to vulnerable facilities.
The government has maintained that protecting strategic institutions remains a priority amid ongoing security challenges affecting different parts of the country.
As of the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement regarding the attempted attack.
Similarly, Operation Enduring Peace, the multi-security task force responsible for maintaining security in Plateau State, had not commented on the incident.
Efforts to obtain reactions from the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Alfred Alabo, and the spokesman for Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Polycarp Oteh, were unsuccessful.
Attempts to get comments from the management of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies also did not yield any response.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over the security of strategic government institutions despite ongoing efforts by security agencies to prevent attacks on critical infrastructure.
NIPSS, established as Nigeria’s foremost policy think tank, regularly hosts senior government officials, military officers, academics and other participants undergoing strategic leadership and policy training.
Security experts have continued to advocate stronger intelligence gathering and proactive surveillance around such institutions to prevent future threats and safeguard national assets.
