Obi Condoles Okonjo-Iweala Over Younger Brother’s Death
Peter Obi has sympathised with WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala following the death of her younger brother, Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo, describing the loss as painful and deeply saddening.
Former Anambra State Governor and Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed sympathy to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala following the death of her younger brother, Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo.
Prince Ikechukwu Okonjo, a member of the Umu Obi Obahai Royal Family of the Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, passed away on May 30, 2026. His death was officially announced by Palace Secretary, Prince Ifeakanachukwu Emordi.
The Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, described the late prince as a devoted husband, caring father, beloved brother and dedicated member of the royal family whose passing has left a significant void in the kingdom.
In a condolence message shared on his official social media platform, Obi said he was deeply saddened by the loss and extended his heartfelt sympathies to Okonjo-Iweala, the royal family and the people of Ogwashi-Uku.
The former governor noted that the death of a younger sibling is a painful and difficult experience, praying for strength and comfort for the family during the period of mourning.
Obi also urged family members and loved ones to draw strength from the legacy and positive impact left behind by the deceased.
