The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has inaugurated an interim board to oversee the operations of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDC) following the dissolution of its former board.
NERC said the intervention followed the company’s repeated failure to meet market obligations and prescribed performance targets.
The commission, through Order No. NERC/2026/08, dissolved the former Board of Directors and constituted a five-member Interim Board of Special Directors.
The new board is chaired by Dr Abdullahi Garba and will serve an initial one-year term.
NERC also appointed Abubakar Umar Hashidu as Interim Administrator of KAEDC for an initial period of six months.
The commission said the new leadership was expected to drive the restructuring of the distribution company, improve its performance and ensure compliance with applicable market obligations.
Following the inauguration, a joint delegation comprising NERC officials, members of the new board, KAEDC management and staff visited the headquarters of the One Division of the Nigerian Army in Kaduna as part of its stakeholder engagements.
The delegation also visited the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna, where it met with the commandant and other principal officers.
NERC said the visits formed part of the new management’s engagement with key stakeholders as KAEDC begins operations under the interim leadership arrangement.
