LASTMA Decries Rising Cases of Hit-and-Run Accidents
LASTMA has condemned rising hit-and-run incidents after rescuing a female victim injured on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, urging motorists to act responsibly and prioritise safety on Lagos roads.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has expressed concern over the increasing number of hit-and-run accidents across Lagos State following the rescue of a female victim knocked down by an unidentified motorist along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the incident occurred at EFF Bus Stop on the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
According to him, the motorist fled the scene immediately after striking the victim, leaving her critically injured and unattended on the busy highway.
Bakare-Oki said personnel of LASTMA, who were carrying out routine traffic monitoring and control operations within the corridor, quickly responded to the emergency after noticing the incident.
The officials immediately secured the victim from further danger and initiated a coordinated rescue effort to prevent additional harm from oncoming vehicles.
He noted that the swift intervention of the traffic officers helped stabilise the situation and ensured that the injured woman received urgent attention.
The LASTMA boss condemned the growing trend of motorists abandoning accident victims and urged drivers to act responsibly by stopping to render assistance and report incidents to relevant authorities.
He also reiterated the agency’s commitment to safeguarding road users and improving emergency response across Lagos roads.
Bakare-Oki called on motorists to exercise greater caution, obey traffic regulations and respect human life while using the state’s road network.
