IGP Redeploys DIGs, Orders Tighter Security Coordination
IGP Olatunji Disu has redeployed Deputy Inspectors-General of Police to their zones from June 15, aiming to strengthen supervision, accountability, coordination and operational effectiveness across Nigeria.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered the redeployment of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) to their respective zones as part of efforts to strengthen security management and improve policing operations across the country.
Disu issued the directive on Tuesday in Abuja during a conference with Strategic Police Managers, comprising senior officers from the rank of Commissioners of Police and above.
According to the police chief, the redeployment will take effect from June 15 and is aimed at enhancing supervision, accountability and operational effectiveness within the various police zones nationwide.
He explained that the move is designed to improve coordination between different levels of police leadership while ensuring that security strategies are effectively implemented across commands.
The IGP said the redeployed DIGs would be responsible for providing strategic oversight of policing activities within their jurisdictions and ensuring that operational directives from the Force Headquarters are properly executed.
He added that the officers would work closely with Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) in their respective zones to strengthen intelligence gathering, crime prevention and law enforcement efforts.
According to Disu, the initiative forms part of broader reforms aimed at improving the efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force and enhancing public confidence in security operations.
He stressed the need for greater collaboration among senior officers, noting that effective policing requires strong leadership, coordination and accountability at all levels.
The police boss also urged commanders to remain proactive in addressing emerging security threats and maintaining law and order in their areas of responsibility.
He emphasized that measurable results must accompany all operational activities, adding that senior officers would be held accountable for the performance of their commands.
The conference provided an opportunity for police leadership to review ongoing security operations, assess challenges confronting law enforcement agencies and develop strategies for improving service delivery.
The redeployment comes amid continued efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen internal administration, enhance operational capacity and improve response to security challenges across the country.
