Henry Predicts ‘Special’ Morocco-Canada World Cup Clash
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry expects an exciting Round of 16 clash between Morocco and Canada, praising Morocco’s fearless approach after their dramatic World Cup victory over the Netherlands.
Former Arsenal and France striker Thierry Henry has predicted an exciting Round of 16 encounter between Morocco and Canada at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the upcoming fixture as one that promises to be special.
Henry made the remarks while analysing Morocco’s dramatic victory over the Netherlands during Fox Sports’ post-match coverage on Tuesday.
The North Africans booked their place in the last 16 after defeating the Netherlands 3-2 on penalties following a hard-fought 1-1 draw that lasted through extra time.
Speaking after the match, Henry praised Morocco for their fearless mentality and positive style of play against one of Europe’s strongest teams.
He said he was particularly impressed by the confidence shown by head coach Mohamed Ouahbi and his players throughout the contest.
“I like how they approached the game. The coach said something at the beginning that we are not scared of anyone, we are not underdogs,” Henry said.
According to the French football legend, Morocco’s willingness to attack and compete without fear was one of the biggest factors behind their success.
“We are here to try to play. The Morocco game against Canada will be special,” he added.
Morocco kept their composure during the penalty shootout after forcing extra time with a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser against the Dutch before eventually progressing to the knockout stage.
They will now face co-hosts Canada on Saturday at Houston Stadium for a place in the World Cup quarter-finals.
Canada secured their own Round of 16 ticket after edging South Africa 1-0 in a tense Round of 32 encounter.
Stephen Eustáquio scored the decisive goal deep into stoppage time to send the North American side into the next round for the first time in the country’s history.
The meeting between Morocco and Canada is expected to be one of the standout fixtures of the Round of 16, with both nations enjoying historic campaigns.
Morocco will be aiming to continue their impressive run after eliminating the Netherlands, while Canada will look to build on the momentum generated by their dramatic victory over South Africa.
The winner of Saturday’s encounter will advance to the quarter-finals as both teams continue their pursuit of a first FIFA World Cup title.
