Governor Biodun Oyebanji Celebrates Historic Re-Election Victory, Pledges Economic Dividends for Every Ekiti Household

Following his declaration as the official winner of the June 20, 2026, off-cycle gubernatorial election, the Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed immense gratitude to the electorate, describing his re-election as a definitive validation of his administration's first-term performance. Speaking during a victory address from his home community, the governor-elect committed to accelerating his grassroots development agenda, promising that his second term will focus on delivering tangible democratic benefits straight to individual households.

Flanked by his wife, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, and top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oyebanji noted that the state-wide mandate has effectively broken long-standing political patterns and united residents across traditional partisan boundaries.

The governor highly commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the efficient deployment of technology, particularly the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), which he credited with ensuring a transparent and reliable process.

He also praised the national security agencies for their professional conduct, noting that their high-density presence effectively deterred disruption and allowed citizens across all sixteen local government areas to exercise their democratic rights in an atmosphere of peace.

In a deliberate effort to heal regional political fractures post-election, Governor Oyebanji extended an olive branch to his major challengers on the ballot, urging them to collapse their structures into his governance framework:

Oyebanji explicitly appealed to the runners-up, recognizing their campaigns as spirited expressions of democracy. He emphasized that the heavy lift of regional statebuilding requires inputs from all stakeholders, regardless of their campaign affiliations.

Looking ahead to his second inauguration, the governor-elect outlined a policy blueprint centered heavily on rural economic integration, food security through targeted farming subsidies, and expanded community health programs. "This victory belongs to no single individual; it belongs to every child, mother, and youth who believes that Ekiti can thrive," Oyebanji stated.

While party agents from rival camps returned to their respective headquarters to audit the final collation sheets, international observer teams heavily monitored the immediate post-election atmosphere, describing it as exceptionally peaceful.

The celebratory rally closed with traditional rulers and trade union leaders offering goodwill messages to the administration, expressing high expectations for the seamless continuation of the state's ongoing infrastructural projects.
