ADC Confirms Amaechi as Atiku’s Running Mate for 2027 Presidential Election
ADC has announced Rotimi Amaechi as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate, describing the partnership as a strong national ticket.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially announced former Minister of Transportation and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as the running mate to its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2027 general election.
The announcement was made on Monday in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
According to the ADC, Amaechi’s selection followed extensive consultations involving party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, and representatives from all geopolitical zones across the country.
The party said Amaechi emerged as the runner-up during its presidential primary election and enjoyed widespread support among members, making him a natural choice for the vice-presidential slot.
The statement described the Atiku-Amaechi partnership as a union of two experienced statesmen capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic, security, and governance challenges. It noted that Amaechi’s extensive experience in both legislative and executive positions would strengthen the party’s chances in the election.
The ADC highlighted Amaechi’s political career, including his service as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation. According to the party, his contributions to governance, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and transportation reforms have earned him national recognition.
The party also emphasized Amaechi’s political influence across Southern Nigeria, particularly in the South-South region, describing him as a reform-minded leader with a proven ability to build alliances across political and regional divides.
ADC further stated that the combination of Atiku and Amaechi offers Nigerians a credible alternative, bringing together decades of experience in governance, economic management, public administration, and nation-building.
The party expressed confidence that the ticket would strengthen its coalition and inspire hope among Nigerians seeking economic recovery, job creation, improved security, and national unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
