PDP, APGA, Accord Back Wike, Soludo, Adeleke for APC Campaign
The PDP, APGA and Accord Party have supported the inclusion of their prominent members in the APC’s campaign council for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, citing existing political arrangements and cooperation across party lines.
Three opposition political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Accord Party, have expressed support for the inclusion of their prominent members in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
The APC named Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in its revised campaign council announced on Tuesday.
Wike, a PDP chieftain, was appointed to coordinate the campaign in Rivers State and the FCT, while Soludo will oversee activities in Anambra and Adeleke in Osun.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary of its National Caretaker Committee, Jungudo Mohammed, said Wike’s decision to work with Tinubu was consistent with an arrangement made at the beginning of the current administration.
Mohammed explained that the party had permitted Wike to support the President, stressing that his participation in the campaign council did not make him a member of the APC’s National Working Committee.
He maintained that Wike was working for Tinubu rather than the ruling party itself.
APGA also congratulated Soludo on his appointment as the Anambra State coordinator of Tinubu’s campaign, describing the role as consistent with the party’s political position.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, APGA recalled that it had adopted Tinubu as its consensus presidential candidate at its National Executive Committee meeting and during the President’s visit to Anambra on May 8, 2025.
The party said it did not field a presidential candidate for the 2027 election in line with that decision. It added that it would continue to pursue electoral victories for its candidates in state and federal legislative elections while supporting Tinubu’s re-election.
Similarly, Bamidele Salam, an Accord Party chieftain and member representing Ede South, Ede North, Ejigbo and Egbedore Federal Constituency in Osun State, welcomed Adeleke’s appointment to coordinate the President’s campaign in the state.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda said the ruling party had approached opposition figures in several states to secure their support for Tinubu’s re-election.
Yilwatda explained that the party reached out to Adeleke after losing the Osun governorship election and also sought Soludo’s support following its defeat in Anambra. He said Wike had likewise agreed to work for Tinubu in Rivers State and the FCT.
According to the APC chairman, the outreach was intended to bring stakeholders together across party lines in support of the President’s second-term bid.
Meanwhile, Wike has maintained that the Rainbow Coalition supporting Tinubu would remain active ahead of the 2027 general election. He dismissed concerns that the arrangement would create tension within the APC, arguing that politicians from different parties could support the President while retaining their own party affiliations.
