2027: Judge Candidates by Records, Ideas, Not Slogans — Makinde Tells Nigerians
Makinde urges Nigerians to assess 2027 presidential candidates based on their records, ideas and ability to deliver rather than slogans or political entertainment.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has urged Nigerians to judge presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 election based on their records, ideas and ability to deliver rather than slogans, personalities, ethnicity or religion.
Makinde made the call in his latest newsletter, where he outlined his vision for the 2027 presidential campaign and said his focus would be on resetting Nigeria and putting citizens’ interests first.
According to the governor, the election should provide an opportunity for Nigerians to have meaningful discussions about the country’s challenges, future and the type of leadership required to address them.
“For me, this campaign will be about putting Nigerians first,” Makinde said.
He said his campaign would seek to “reset our country so that it works for all Nigerians, not just a select few.”
Makinde disclosed that he would visit the six geopolitical zones in the coming months to engage stakeholders, present his ideas and listen directly to Nigerians.
He said he wanted to hear from workers whose incomes could no longer meet their basic needs, business owners struggling with rising costs, farmers facing security and market challenges, young people seeking opportunities and families concerned about safety.
“I want to hear directly from Nigerians,” he said.
The governor said his proposed manifesto, known as The Reset Agenda, was currently being reviewed by stakeholders.
He explained that the manifesto would focus on major national challenges, including security, the economy, the rising cost of living and food security.
Makinde added that the document would provide details on how his proposed policies would be implemented, funded and measured.
He urged Nigerians to scrutinise the programmes and records of candidates before deciding who to support in 2027.
The governor said voters should look beyond political slogans and entertainment, insisting that the ability to deliver meaningful results should be a major consideration in choosing the country’s next president.
