2027: Tinubu’s Campaign Council Is ‘Corruption Rehabilitation Centre’ — ADC
The ADC has criticised Tinubu’s 2027 campaign council, alleging that some appointments involve individuals with unresolved corruption questions.
The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has criticised the composition of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign council, describing it as a “rehabilitation centre” for individuals facing unresolved corruption allegations.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party questioned the return of some individuals with previous corruption allegations to prominent political positions.
The ADC asked what had happened to corruption cases involving some of the newly appointed campaign council members, particularly those who had previously faced investigations or prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
“If they have been cleared, the government should show how and when and by whom they were cleared,” Abdullahi said.
The party alleged that corruption investigations under the Tinubu administration were increasingly disappearing from public attention, only for some of those involved to later re-emerge in political or government positions.
“Under this government, corruption allegations increasingly appear to have an expiry date,” the ADC said.
2027 election is referendum
The opposition party also described the 2027 presidential election as a referendum on Tinubu’s performance since assuming office.
The ADC accused the administration of worsening poverty and the cost-of-living crisis while politically connected individuals allegedly enjoy what it described as “obscene opulence.”
“They cannot campaign away the cost of living crisis or the endemic poverty that their bad policies have created,” the party said.
The ADC renewed its call for a targeted, capped, budgeted and independently audited fuel production-support mechanism, arguing that such an intervention could help reduce petrol prices and ease pressure on households.
The party said its proposal was designed to ensure accountability in the petroleum sector.
“Our proposal is straightforward: every naira must be traceable and every barrel accounted for,” it said.
The ADC also challenged the Federal Government to account for what it described as wasteful spending and misguided policies, insisting that Nigerians would judge the administration based on its record ahead of the 2027 election.
