2027 Election Is a Fight Between Nigerians, ‘Oppressors’ — Kwankwaso

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has described the 2027 general election as a struggle between Nigerians and what he termed “the oppressors.”

Kwankwaso made the remarks when South-East leaders and members of the Kwankwaso National Network, KNN, led by its South-East Coordinator, Dr Ukpai Iro Ukpai, visited him at his residence in Abuja.

The delegation briefed the former Kano State governor on the activities of the network and its plans to mobilise support for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket across the South-East.

According to Ukpai, Kwankwaso told the delegation that growing dissatisfaction with the state of the country had created a strong demand for political change ahead of the 2027 elections.

The former governor urged Nigerians to put aside political differences and unite around what he described as the broader interest of the country.

He said the election should not be viewed simply as a contest between political parties or individual candidates, but as a decision that would determine Nigeria’s future.

“It is not about me, it is about us,” Kwankwaso was quoted as saying.

Kwankwaso also urged supporters of the alliance to remain committed to the political struggle beyond the 2027 election, stressing the need for sustained grassroots mobilisation.

He cited the recent Osun State governorship election as an indication that votes could determine electoral outcomes when citizens remain committed to protecting their mandates.

The NDC candidate called on Nigerians to reject electoral malpractice, including vote buying and selling, warning that immediate personal benefits should not be allowed to compromise the country’s long-term future.

He further urged KNN leaders and supporters in the South-East to intensify their grassroots mobilisation and expand their engagement with voters ahead of the 2027 general election.

Kwankwaso’s remarks come amid growing efforts by opposition political groups to build alliances and mobilise support ahead of the presidential contest.
