Zamfara: Bandits Kidnap Seven Federal Polytechnic Students in Kaura Namoda
Suspected bandits abducted seven Federal Polytechnic students in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State. One victim escaped, while security agencies launched coordinated operations to rescue the remaining captives.
Suspected bandits have abducted seven students of Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda after invading their off-campus residence in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The attack occurred on Tuesday night at a student residence located on the outskirts of the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda town, sparking fresh concerns about insecurity in the region.
Confirming the incident, Mannir Haidara Kaura said security agencies had immediately commenced rescue operations aimed at securing the safe return of the victims.
According to him, security operatives are actively working to locate the abducted students and bring them back unharmed.
A student of the institution, Ibrahim Ahmad, disclosed that one of the victims managed to escape during the attack, leaving six others—three males and three females—in captivity.
Meanwhile, a group known as the Concerned Citizens of Kaura Namoda expressed alarm over the deteriorating security situation in the area, which it linked to the activities of notorious bandit groups operating around the community.
The group referenced previous kidnapping incidents, including the abduction of two senior lecturers who reportedly spent more than two months in captivity despite ransom payments.
It also cited the kidnapping of three residents and a district head from a location close to a military base, alleging that the victims remain in captivity.
The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the latest abduction on Wednesday and assured residents that efforts had been intensified to rescue the students.
Police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar said the incident occurred at the students’ residence outside the main campus and confirmed that one student escaped while six others were taken away by the attackers.
He explained that the institution itself remains heavily secured, making it difficult for criminal elements to gain access to the school premises.
According to the police, preliminary findings indicate that one of the students stepped outside during the night and reportedly left the door open, creating an opportunity for the attackers to enter the residence.
Abubakar added that operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, working alongside troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, have launched a coordinated operation to track down the kidnappers and secure the victims’ release.
The incident adds to growing security concerns in Zamfara State, where authorities continue efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes affecting communities and educational institutions.
