You Can’t Condemn Cheaper Living Proposal, Rename It Renewed Hope

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised the Federal Government’s economic policies, arguing that President Bola Tinubu cannot reject proposals aimed at making life more affordable while continuing to promote the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.

Atiku said the government should be more focused on reducing the cost of living and improving Nigerians’ purchasing power rather than dismissing alternative policy proposals.

His comments followed growing public debate over economic reforms and competing political positions on how best to address hardship across the country.

The former vice president argued that Nigerians are struggling with rising prices of food, transportation, housing and other essential commodities, making affordable living an urgent national priority.

According to him, any proposal capable of reducing the burden on households should be carefully considered rather than rejected for political reasons.

Atiku said the government’s economic policies should be measured by their impact on ordinary Nigerians, particularly workers, pensioners, small business owners and low-income families.

He maintained that the continued rise in the prices of essential goods had placed millions of Nigerians under severe financial pressure.

The former presidential candidate also questioned the government’s decision to dismiss policies proposed by political opponents while presenting its own programmes under different names.

He challenged Tinubu to demonstrate that the administration’s economic reforms were producing tangible improvements in household welfare.

Atiku argued that Nigerians were less concerned about the political branding attached to government programmes and more interested in whether those policies could make food, transportation, healthcare, education and other necessities more affordable.

He said the government should create an economic environment that encourages businesses to invest, creates jobs and improves the purchasing power of citizens.

The former vice president further called for greater transparency and accountability in the implementation of economic policies, stressing that public resources must be directed towards programmes that deliver measurable benefits.

He maintained that political differences should not prevent the government from adopting ideas that could improve the lives of Nigerians.

Atiku said the country’s economic challenges required cooperation among political leaders and stakeholders rather than constant political rivalry.

He urged the Tinubu administration to reconsider policies that had contributed to hardship and embrace measures capable of reducing inflation and strengthening household incomes.

The former vice president stressed that Nigerians deserved an economy where hard work could provide a decent standard of living.

He said the success of any government should ultimately be judged by whether citizens could afford basic necessities and live with dignity.
