ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifier: Nigeria Thrash Malawi By 94 Runs

Nigeria’s Junior Female YellowGreens recorded an emphatic 94-run victory over Malawi in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 1 in Tanzania.

The impressive win on Match Day Two gave Nigeria back-to-back victories in the competition after the team opened its campaign with a four-wicket triumph over Uganda.

After Malawi won the toss and elected to bowl, Nigeria posted an imposing 152 runs for the loss of seven wickets from their allotted 20 overs.

Shola Adekunle led Nigeria’s batting effort with 32 runs from 27 deliveries, including five boundaries.

Omosigho Eguakun continued her strong start to the tournament with 26 runs from 19 balls, while Beauty Oguai also contributed 26 runs from 28 deliveries, hitting four boundaries.

Captain Christabel Chukwuonye added an important quickfire 20 runs from just 12 balls. Her innings included two fours and a six and came at an impressive strike rate of 166.67.

Inyene Umoh also made a useful contribution with 17 runs from 14 balls, while Jennifer Godwin and Jessica Bieni added valuable runs towards the end of the innings.

Nigeria’s total of 152 gave the bowlers a strong platform to defend, and they responded with an outstanding performance.

Malawi struggled against the Nigerian attack and lost wickets at regular intervals as the Junior Female YellowGreens maintained pressure throughout the innings.

The Malawian side was eventually bowled out for just 58 runs in 18.3 overs, handing Nigeria a comprehensive 94-run victory.

The result further strengthens Nigeria’s position in the Africa Division 1 qualifier as the Junior Female YellowGreens continue their pursuit of a place at the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

The team’s consecutive victories have provided an encouraging start to the campaign and boosted confidence ahead of the remaining matches.
