‘You Need Prayers’ — Makinde Hits Fayose Over Kidnap Comments
Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed Ayodele Fayose’s comments on the Oriire abductions, describing them as reckless and misleading, while assuring residents that efforts continue to rescue victims.
The Oyo State Government has strongly criticised former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, over comments he made regarding the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, Governor Seyi Makinde called on Nigerians to pray for Fayose, describing his remarks as false, divisive, and unhelpful.
Oyelade said Nigerians were shocked by the former governor’s comments, which he claimed could undermine ongoing efforts by security agencies to secure the release of those still in captivity.
According to the commissioner, Makinde is focused on addressing the security challenges facing the state and finding lasting solutions to the activities of kidnappers rather than engaging in political disputes.
He accused Fayose of allowing political grievances to influence his public statements, arguing that such comments could distract security personnel handling the sensitive rescue operation.
The commissioner also referred to previous remarks allegedly made by Fayose linking the governor to political tensions within the state, including claims surrounding the recent abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area.
Oyelade urged residents of Oyo State and Nigerians generally to remain calm and hopeful, assuring them that the government and security agencies were working tirelessly to secure the safe release of the abducted pupils and teachers.
The exchange followed comments made by Fayose during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, where he accused the Oyo State Government of responding slowly to the kidnapping incident.
Fayose also alleged, without presenting evidence, that the abductions were politically motivated to embarrass President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The claims have since generated fresh political controversy and sharp reactions from the Oyo State Government.
The latest development highlights growing political tensions surrounding the handling of insecurity and recent kidnapping incidents, as authorities continue efforts to rescue the victims and restore public confidence.
