Yinka Alaseyori Apologises Over Comments on Oyo School Abduction
Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has apologised after backlash over her comments on the Oyo school abduction, saying her remarks were misinterpreted and she never intended to offend victims’ families.
Popular gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has issued an apology following criticism of her remarks concerning the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
In a video posted on her Instagram page on Wednesday, the singer said her earlier comments were misunderstood and expressed regret over any hurt caused to victims’ families and members of the public.
She explained that her intention was to address the broader security situation in the country and encourage continued prayers, rather than to downplay the severity of the incident.
Alaseyori said she became aware of public backlash after her video circulated online, noting that many Nigerians felt her remarks did not adequately reflect the pain of those affected.
“I did a video two days ago about the kidnapped children… but I found out that some well-meaning Nigerians were not happy about it,” she said.
The gospel artiste appealed directly to mothers and families of the abducted victims for forgiveness, insisting she never intended to appear insensitive.
“You know me too well that I would never make you feel like that… I am sorry,” she said in the emotional apology.
Her apology follows earlier reactions to a video in which she encouraged Nigerians to pray for the country while expressing confidence in government efforts to address insecurity and rescue abducted victims.
The incident adds to ongoing public sensitivity around recent school kidnappings and wider insecurity concerns across parts of Nigeria.
