World Cup: I Want England to Win Trophy After Norway Exit — Haaland
Erling Haaland says he is supporting England to win the 2026 World Cup, citing his childhood admiration for the Three Lions after Norway’s quarter-final exit.
Norway striker Erling Haaland has revealed he is backing England to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup following his country’s elimination from the tournament.
Haaland made the disclosure after Norway suffered a 2-1 extra-time defeat to England in the quarter-finals, ending the Vikings’ historic campaign.
Speaking after the match in Miami, the Manchester City forward said he hopes the Three Lions go all the way, citing his connections with several England players and his childhood admiration for the team.
“Yeah why not? I think I have a few City lads in England and in France and in Spain so of course I want England to do well,” Haaland said.
“I’ve been supporting, I think I got an England jersey before I got the Norway jersey when I was young, so of course I want England to do well because it’s a nice country and a nice T-shirt!”
Norway reached the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time after defeating Brazil in the Round of 16, with Haaland playing a key role in the team’s impressive run.
The 25-year-old scored seven goals in five matches, finishing among the tournament’s leading scorers before Norway’s exit.
In the quarter-final, Andreas Schjelderup gave Norway the lead before England midfielder Jude Bellingham scored twice to complete the comeback and send the Three Lions into the semi-finals.
England will now face Argentina for a place in the World Cup final as they continue their quest for a second world title.
