World Cup Semi-finals: ‘We’ll Give Our Souls Against You’ — Argentina’s Cristian Romero Warns England
Cristian Romero says Argentina will give everything against England as the defending champions chase another FIFA World Cup final appearance.
Argentina defender Cristian Romero has vowed that the reigning world champions will give everything on the pitch when they face England in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The highly anticipated encounter is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, at the Atlanta Stadium, with a place in the final at stake.
Romero made the pledge after Argentina booked their place in the last four with a hard-fought 3-1 extra-time victory over Switzerland in the quarter-finals.
The Albiceleste took the lead in the 10th minute through Alexis Mac Allister before Switzerland restored parity in the 67th minute when Dan Ndoye found the back of the net.
Switzerland’s task became more difficult after Breel Embolo was shown a controversial red card, allowing Argentina to capitalise on their numerical advantage with two goals in the second half of extra time to seal victory.
Reacting ahead of the semi-final, Romero said Argentina would leave everything on the field in pursuit of another World Cup final appearance.
“We will give our souls against England. It’s football, sometimes you win or lose, but we will leave our lives on the pitch to reach the final again,” he said, according to All About Argentina on X.
Argentina, the defending champions, have progressed to the semi-finals but have endured difficult outings throughout the tournament.
Lionel Scaloni’s side were pushed hard by Cape Verde during the group stage before overcoming Egypt and Switzerland in the knockout rounds.
They now face an England side brimming with confidence after eliminating Norway 2-1 in the quarter-finals, thanks to a brace from Jude Bellingham.
The semi-final is expected to be one of the biggest matches of the tournament, with both nations aiming to secure a place in the World Cup final and continue their pursuit of football’s biggest prize.
