Bishop's Wife Urges Women to Stay Committed to Nation Building
Dr Modupe Familoni, wife of the Anglican Bishop of Oyo South, has urged Christian women to remain committed to nation building by raising responsible families, promoting moral values and supporting national development despite Nigeria's current socio-economic challenges. She also called for improved healthcare, education and stronger security across the country.
The President of the Mothers' Union and Women's Guild of the Anglican Missionary Diocese of Oyo South, Dr Modupe Familoni, has urged Christian women to remain steadfast in their role as nation builders despite Nigeria's current economic and security challenges. She made the appeal during the opening of the first Annual Women's Conference of the Missionary Diocese of Oyo South held at the Cathedral Church of St. John, Akinmoorin, Oyo State.
Speaking on the conference theme, "Keep Hope Alive" (Romans 15:13), Familoni encouraged women not to lose hope because of insecurity, economic hardship and moral decline in the country. She said Christians should remain confident in God's promises and continue to contribute positively to society through faith, perseverance and service.
Familoni described women as indispensable partners in national development, stressing that responsible homes produce responsible citizens. She noted that the values, discipline and character mothers instil in their children would determine the quality of future leadership and citizenship in Nigeria. She therefore urged women to intentionally raise children with godly values and sound moral principles.
The bishop's wife also called on governments to improve healthcare and education by upgrading medical facilities, recruiting more health workers, investing in school infrastructure and improving teachers' welfare. She expressed concern over the number of out-of-school children and urged greater collaboration among government, parents and communities to strengthen the education sector.
Familoni further commended President Bola Tinubu, security agencies and local security outfits for the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State. She appealed to both the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government to provide medical, psychological and educational support for the rescued victims while strengthening security around schools to prevent similar incidents.
