Abia Governor Approves Rehabilitation of School, Road in Ironsi's Community
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has approved the rehabilitation of Ibeama Primary School, attended by former Head of State General Aguiyi-Ironsi, and ordered an inspection of the road leading to the late leader's community for possible reconstruction, following requests from community leaders.
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has directed the immediate rehabilitation of Ibeama Primary School, the alma mater of Nigeria's former Head of State, the late General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, as well as the inspection and rehabilitation of the road leading to the late military leader's hometown in Ndume Otuka, Umuahia North Local Government Area.
The governor gave the directives while responding to requests made by community leaders during a civic reception organised in honour of the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Austin Nmeregini. Otti instructed the Commissioner for Works, Otumchere Oti, to inspect the road leading to Aguiyi-Ironsi's residence and submit recommendations for its rehabilitation. He also directed the Chairman of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) to immediately begin the process of restoring the primary school.
Otti explained that his administration is undertaking a comprehensive rehabilitation of public schools across the state and assured the community that Ibeama Primary School would not be left out. He said the rehabilitation forms part of his government's broader efforts to improve educational infrastructure and provide a conducive learning environment for pupils across Abia State.
The governor also appreciated the people of Ndume Otuka for recognising his administration's developmental efforts and for expressing continued support for his government. He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering people-oriented projects and sustaining the pace of infrastructure development throughout the state.
Community leaders, including the President-General of the Ndume Otuka Development Union, Okezie Onyemauwa, commended the governor's achievements in infrastructure, education and governance. They pledged their support for Otti's administration and expressed confidence that the planned rehabilitation projects would preserve the historical legacy of General Aguiyi-Ironsi while improving living conditions within the community.
