Fayose Faults Remi Tinubu’s Call on Davido, Burna Boy, Asake to Help Poor Nigerians
Isaac Fayose has disagreed with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s appeal to Nigerian artistes, urging government officials to also prioritise helping poor citizens.
Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has criticised First Lady Oluremi Tinubu over her appeal to Nigerian entertainers to support poor citizens through charitable initiatives.
In a video shared on X, Fayose said he disagreed with the First Lady’s call, arguing that government officials should also prioritise spending on programmes that directly benefit ordinary Nigerians.
His reaction followed remarks by the First Lady during the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme in Lokoja, Kogi State, where she urged leading entertainers, including Davido, Burna Boy and Asake, to establish charitable foundations to support vulnerable Nigerians.
While acknowledging that successful entertainers should give back to society, Fayose questioned the government’s own spending priorities.
“I disagree with you, ma,” he said.
“You’re the one who asked state governors to buy brand-new cars for APC women leaders in their states. That money could have been used to help people too.”
Fayose argued that resources spent on such initiatives could instead have been channelled towards poverty alleviation and support for struggling Nigerians.
The First Lady had maintained that while owning luxury cars was not wrong, celebrities should also use their wealth to uplift the less privileged through philanthropy and community development.
Her remarks have continued to generate mixed reactions, with some Nigerians supporting the call for greater charitable giving by wealthy individuals, while others insist government should take primary responsibility for addressing poverty through effective policies and social intervention programmes.
