World Cup: England Players Not United, Aguero Warns Ahead of Argentina Clash

Former Argentina striker Sergio Aguero has claimed that England lack the unity and togetherness that have helped Argentina reach the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Aguero believes the difference in team chemistry could prove decisive when both nations meet in Wednesday’s blockbuster semi-final at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Speaking to ESPN ahead of the encounter, the former Manchester City forward argued that Argentina’s close-knit dressing room gives Lionel Scaloni’s side an important advantage over the Three Lions.

According to Aguero, Argentina’s players share strong relationships on and off the pitch, creating a united atmosphere that becomes especially valuable during difficult moments in matches.

“What England lacks, which Argentina possesses, is a strong sense of unity among the team,” Aguero said.

The former forward, who represented Argentina at three FIFA World Cups, insisted that harmony within the squad has been central to the defending champions’ successful campaign.

“Argentine players are very close-knit, very friendly, and we maintain our friendships on the pitch,” he added.

“This camaraderie is crucial for achieving victory, as there is no anger or bad blood within the group.”

Aguero contrasted that atmosphere with England’s, claiming the Three Lions tend to become divided whenever matches fail to go according to plan.

“In England, when things start to go awry, you can observe them beginning to argue with one another, leading to conflict. That’s where we excel, in our group cohesion,” he said.

Argentina have battled through a demanding route to the last four, overcoming Cape Verde, Egypt and Switzerland to continue their title defence.

Lionel Messi has once again been central to their success, scoring eight goals and providing two assists to emerge as one of the tournament’s standout performers.

England, meanwhile, have impressed with their attacking quality under Thomas Tuchel, with captain Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham playing leading roles in the team’s progress to the semi-finals.

The winner of the Argentina-England showdown will face Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final after the European champions defeated France 2-0 in the other semi-final.

Aguero believes Argentina’s unity and experience could provide the edge as they attempt to book a place in a second consecutive World Cup final.
