Oyo Schoolchildren’s Rescue: Kalu Hails Tinubu, NSA, Security Agencies
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu praised President Tinubu, NSA Nuhu Ribadu and security agencies for rescuing abducted Oyo schoolchildren, urging politicians to avoid politicising national security matters.
Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and Nigeria’s security agencies for the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Kalu described the operation as a major relief to the victims, their families, and the nation, praising the professionalism and coordination displayed by the security agencies throughout the rescue mission.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the senator applauded the efforts of the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other intelligence and security organisations involved in the operation.
According to him, the successful rescue demonstrated the importance of sustained cooperation among security institutions in addressing insecurity across the country.
Kalu noted that the outcome reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and protecting citizens from criminal elements.
“I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture, the National Security Adviser for coordinating intelligence and security operations, and our gallant security personnel whose sacrifices continue to keep our country safe,” he said.
“They deserve our appreciation and support.”
The former governor also appealed to politicians and public office holders to avoid turning security matters into partisan issues, stressing that national safety should remain above political considerations.
“I appeal to politicians and public commentators to avoid playing politics with issues of security,” Kalu said.
“What Nigerians expect from all of us is constructive support, responsible engagement, and a united front against criminality. Our collective objective should be the protection of lives and property, irrespective of political differences.”
He expressed sympathy for the families of the victims, acknowledging the emotional trauma they endured during the 56 days the children and teachers spent in captivity.
Kalu prayed for the full physical and psychological recovery of those rescued and urged security agencies to sustain the momentum by strengthening intelligence gathering, improving inter-agency collaboration and ensuring that those responsible for kidnapping and terrorism are apprehended and prosecuted.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting legislative measures aimed at improving Nigeria’s security institutions while encouraging citizens to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies in the fight against insecurity.
