Trump Threatens Iran Over Alleged Support For Hezbollah Amid Switzerland Talks

United States President, Donald Trump, has threatened renewed military action against Iran if it fails to restrain Hezbollah, as senior American and Iranian officials commenced peace talks in Switzerland.

Trump issued the warning on Sunday through his Truth Social platform, accusing Iran of continuing to support Hezbollah activities in Lebanon despite ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East.

“Iran must immediately stop their highly paid proxies in Lebanon from causing trouble,” Trump wrote. “If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder.”

The warning comes amid growing concerns that recent clashes between the Israeli military and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon could undermine fragile diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.

Fighting intensified on Saturday when Israeli airstrikes reportedly killed at least 30 people in eastern and southern Lebanon. The violence later subsided after the Israeli military was ordered to suspend further operations against Hezbollah.

The developments have raised fears of a broader regional escalation at a time when both Iran and the United States are attempting to advance negotiations aimed at easing longstanding tensions.

According to reports, a memorandum of understanding signed earlier between the two countries provides for a cessation of hostilities across several conflict zones, including Lebanon.

Speaking at the opening of the Switzerland talks, US Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism that progress was being made toward preserving the ceasefire arrangement.

“I’ve seen great progress in the last couple of days in ensuring that the ceasefire holds in Lebanon,” Vance said.

He added that all parties involved were working toward regional stability and peace, describing the situation in Lebanon as encouraging despite remaining challenges.

“We’re all working towards regional peace. I actually feel great about where we are in Lebanon. There’s still some additional work to do, but we’re going to keep working at it,” he stated.

Vance also argued that the Trump administration had played a major role in reducing hostilities in Lebanon and preventing a wider conflict.

The Switzerland negotiations are being closely monitored by regional and international observers, who view them as a critical opportunity to reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran and prevent further instability across the Middle East
