Troops Rescue 10 Abducted NECO Candidates, Teachers in Borno
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai rescued 10 abducted NECO candidates and teachers after suspected ISWAP terrorists attacked a secondary school in Borno, while efforts continue to locate remaining victims.
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have rescued 10 National Examinations Council (NECO) candidates and teachers who were abducted by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists during an attack on a secondary school in Borno State.
According to security sources, the attack occurred at about 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the Technical Secondary School in Lassa Community, Askira/Uba Local Government Area, while students were sitting for their ongoing NECO examinations.
The terrorists reportedly stormed the school, causing panic among students and staff before abducting several examination candidates and teachers.
After carrying out the attack, the insurgents fled into the surrounding bush with the victims.
Following the incident, troops of Operation Hadin Kai launched a coordinated search and rescue operation based on intelligence gathered from the area.
Security sources disclosed that the military operation resulted in the successful rescue of 10 of the abducted victims.
The rescued candidates and teachers were reportedly found unharmed and have since been taken to safety for medical evaluation and debriefing.
Military authorities have continued search operations in the surrounding forests to locate and rescue any remaining victims believed to still be in captivity.
According to intelligence sources quoted by security analyst Zagazola Makama, troops have intensified surveillance and offensive operations in the area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping or escaping with other captives.
The attack has raised fresh concerns over the security of schools in conflict-affected communities in Borno State, particularly as students continue to sit for national examinations.
Residents of Lassa Community expressed relief over the rescue of the victims while calling on security agencies to sustain operations until all abducted persons are safely recovered.
Operation Hadin Kai has recorded several successes in recent months through sustained offensives against Boko Haram and ISWAP strongholds across the North-East.
The military has repeatedly assured residents that efforts to restore security and protect vulnerable communities remain a top priority.
As security operations continue, authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist ongoing efforts to rescue any remaining captives and track down those responsible for the attack.
