Troops Neutralise IEDs, Intercept Terror Logistics Suppliers In North-East
Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces have neutralised several IEDs and intercepted suppliers of logistics to terrorists in the North-East, disrupting the insurgents' supply network as the military intensifies its counter-terrorism operations in the region.
Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces have neutralised several Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and intercepted suppliers of logistics to terrorists in the North-East region, in a renewed push to dismantle the operational network of insurgents.
The successful operations form part of the sustained counter-terrorism efforts aimed at degrading the capacity of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), and other terrorist groups operating in the region.
According to military sources, the troops successfully detected and neutralised the IEDs, which were planted by the insurgents to inflict casualties on security personnel and innocent civilians.
In addition, the troops intercepted individuals suspected to be supplying logistics, including food items, fuel, and other materials, to the terrorists, thereby cutting off a vital lifeline that sustains their operations.
Military authorities commended the gallantry, vigilance, and professionalism of the troops, noting that the operations had significantly disrupted the activities and supply chain of the insurgents.
The neutralisation of the IEDs is considered a major boost to the safety of both security personnel and civilians, as such explosive devices have remained a deadly tool used by terrorists to carry out attacks.
The interception of the logistics suppliers is also seen as a strategic success, as it deprives the insurgents of essential supplies needed to sustain their nefarious activities in the region.
Military officials reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces to the complete defeat of terrorism and insurgency in the North-East and other parts of the country affected by security challenges.
They urged members of the public to continue supporting the military by providing credible and timely information that would aid ongoing operations against terrorists and their collaborators.
The military also warned individuals and groups against aiding or abetting terrorists in any form, stressing that those found supplying logistics or supporting insurgents would face the full weight of the law.
The North-East region has, for over a decade, been ravaged by insurgency, which has claimed thousands of lives, displaced millions of people, and destroyed communities and livelihoods.
However, the sustained military offensive in the region has continued to yield positive results, with troops recording successes in degrading the capacity of the insurgents and reclaiming affected territories.
The Nigerian Armed Forces reiterated their determination to sustain operations until lasting peace and security are fully restored to the North-East and other troubled parts of the country.
