Tinubu’s Policies Have Made Buhari Look Like a Saint — Atiku Aide Blasts Government

A Senior Assistant on Politics to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, claiming that the current economic hardship in the country has made former President Muhammadu Buhari appear “like a saint” in comparison.

Speaking during an interview on Vanguard’s Politics Hub, Olarewaju described the Tinubu administration as a “360-degree failure,” accusing it of worsening poverty, deepening economic instability, and failing across key sectors of governance.

According to him, Nigerians are currently facing unprecedented hardship, particularly due to the sharp increase in fuel prices and the rising cost of living, which he said has placed severe pressure on households and businesses nationwide.

“Tinubu’s biggest achievement is making Nigeria poorer, and it’s because of the instability of the economy,” Olarewaju said. “Bola Tinubu has made poverty worse; he has made Buhari look like a saint.”

He argued that the difference in fuel prices between the previous and current administrations reflects the worsening economic situation, noting that transportation and production costs have significantly increased under the current government.

The political aide also criticised the power sector, faulting the electricity tariff classification system into Bands A, B, C and D, while insisting that Nigerians continue to experience poor electricity supply regardless of category.

“The electricity doesn’t come,” he said, adding that government policies have failed to translate into improved service delivery for ordinary citizens.

Olarewaju further accused President Tinubu of being disconnected from the realities faced by Nigerians, particularly in relation to infrastructure and public utilities. He alleged that while citizens struggle with unstable electricity and rising costs, those in power are insulated from the impact of the crisis.

He also raised concerns about the worsening security situation, claiming that banditry and kidnapping have expanded across several parts of the country, bringing insecurity closer to major urban centres.

“Almost every state of the country now is under siege,” he warned, citing increasing attacks and criminal activity in different regions.

Olarewaju concluded by insisting that the administration has failed to record meaningful progress since assuming office, calling for a change of leadership in the 2027 general elections.
