Tinubu Deploys 79 Locally-Assembled Ambulances to Tertiary Hospitals Nationwide
President Bola Tinubu has deployed 79 locally assembled advanced ambulances to tertiary hospitals across Nigeria to strengthen emergency healthcare delivery and reduce avoidable deaths nationwide.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned and deployed 79 locally assembled advanced ambulances to tertiary hospitals across the country as part of efforts to strengthen emergency medical response and reduce preventable deaths.
The ambulances were unveiled on Tuesday in Lagos and are being distributed to federal tertiary health institutions under the National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (NEMSAS).
The commissioning was carried out by the Chief Medical Director of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Wasiu Lanre Adeyemo, on behalf of the President.
According to officials, the intervention forms part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration and aligns with the government’s broader health sector reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Adeyemo said the ambulances are designed as Advanced Life Support units equipped with modern medical and communication systems that allow hospitals to prepare for patients before arrival, improving response time and survival rates in emergencies.
He explained that the vehicles will significantly enhance the movement of patients from homes, roads, schools, markets, and other locations to hospitals where urgent care can be provided.
“These ambulances will improve the movement of patients… and significantly reduce avoidable deaths and complications arising from delayed access to care,” he said.
He further disclosed that the ambulances were fully assembled in Nigeria, including installation of emergency medical equipment, highlighting growing local capacity in healthcare manufacturing and technology.
The ambulances are also powered by a dual-fuel system using Premium Motor Spirit and Compressed Natural Gas, in line with government efforts to promote energy diversification and sustainability.
The initiative is also expected to boost local manufacturing, create jobs, and strengthen confidence in indigenous production capacity, according to health officials.
The Federal Government said the deployment will improve referral systems between healthcare facilities and strengthen emergency care infrastructure nationwide, particularly in critical cases where delays often result in loss of life.
Health authorities added that improving emergency transportation is a key component of ongoing reforms aimed at reducing mortality rates and expanding access to quality healthcare services across Nigeria.
