Quite Unfair to Deny Security Improvement in Nigeria — Presidency
The Presidency says Nigeria has made significant security gains under President Tinubu, citing improved road travel, military successes against terrorists, and ongoing efforts to combat insecurity nationwide.
The Presidency has defended the security record of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that significant progress has been made in the fight against insecurity across the country.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Daniel Bwala, made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday.
Bwala said it would be unfair to dismiss the achievements recorded by security agencies, noting that military operations have led to the elimination of several top commanders of the Boko Haram terrorist group and other criminal elements.
According to him, recent successes were made possible through collaborative efforts involving the Nigerian military and international partners, including the United States.
He acknowledged that security challenges such as killings, kidnappings, and attacks remain a concern but maintained that the government has a responsibility to inform Nigerians about the progress being made in addressing them.
Bwala argued that the security situation has improved compared to previous years, particularly in areas once considered highly dangerous for travel.
He cited the Abuja-Kaduna route as an example, recalling that before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office, many travellers relied heavily on security escorts because of persistent attacks and abductions.
According to the presidential spokesman, the situation has improved considerably, with more Nigerians now able to travel across major routes with greater confidence.
He further stated that in 2026, people have been travelling from Abuja to Maiduguri and parts of Adamawa State, which he described as evidence of ongoing improvements in security.
The Presidency’s comments come amid continued public debate over the state of security in Nigeria, as citizens and stakeholders assess the impact of government efforts against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities across the country.
