PSG Defeat Arsenal on Penalties to Retain Champions League Title
PSG retained the UEFA Champions League after a 4–3 penalty shootout win over Arsenal in Budapest, following a 1–1 draw after extra time, with Arsenal’s missed penalties proving decisive.
Paris Saint-Germain have retained the UEFA Champions League after beating Arsenal 4–3 on penalties in a dramatic final that ended 1–1 after extra time in Budapest.
Arsenal made a strong start to the match, taking the lead in the first half through Kai Havertz, who finished clinically after an early attacking spell from Mikel Arteta’s side.
PSG gradually grew into the game and found an equaliser in the second half when Ousmane Dembélé converted from the penalty spot after a foul in the box.
Both teams pushed for a winner in extra time, but neither side could break the deadlock, forcing the contest into a penalty shootout.
In the shootout, PSG held their nerve to convert their spot-kicks, while Arsenal suffered heartbreak as two key misses proved costly, including a decisive effort that went over the bar.
The result means PSG successfully defend their European crown, becoming one of the few clubs in the modern Champions League era to win back-to-back titles.
For Arsenal, it is another painful near-miss on the European stage despite a strong performance throughout the competition and the final itself.
