The Nigeria Police Force has raided suspected bandits' hideouts along FCT border communities, arresting four suspects and recovering arms and ammunition during the operation.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have raided suspected bandits' hideouts along border communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), arresting four suspects and recovering arms and ammunition during the operation.
The Nigeria Police Force has dismantled suspected bandits' camps operating along border communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), leading to the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of weapons and ammunition.
The operation was carried out by a combined team of police tactical units and intelligence operatives following credible intelligence on the activities of armed criminal groups terrorising communities along the FCT boundary with neighbouring states.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the operation was executed as part of sustained efforts to root out criminal elements and secure vulnerable border communities in the nation's capital.
The police spokesperson confirmed that the suspects were arrested during coordinated raids on identified hideouts in forested areas along the FCT periphery, where the criminals had established camps and launch pads for attacks on travellers and nearby communities.
Items recovered during the operation include AK-47 rifles, locally fabricated firearms, live ammunition, military camouflage uniforms and other incriminating materials.
Adejobi stated that preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects were involved in kidnapping, armed robbery and cattle rustling operations targeting communities in the FCT and adjoining states.
The police spokesperson assured residents of the FCT and its environs of the Force's commitment to sustaining the offensive against criminal networks and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
He further called on members of the public to continue providing timely and actionable intelligence to security agencies to aid in the fight against banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
The four suspects are currently in custody and are assisting the police with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the criminal gang who escaped during the raid.
The police have vowed to ensure that all those involved in criminal activities along the FCT borders are apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
