The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has called on the Federal Government to identify and expose the financiers and sponsors of terrorism in the country, while also throwing its weight behind the establishment of state police as a means of tackling the worsening insecurity.**

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has urged the Federal Government to unmask and prosecute those funding and sponsoring terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes ravaging various parts of the country.

The party argued that the continued anonymity of terror financiers remains one of the major reasons insecurity has persisted, stressing that exposing and bringing the sponsors to justice would significantly weaken the operations of criminal groups.

The YPP maintained that the government possesses the intelligence and security capacity to identify the individuals and networks bankrolling terrorism, insisting that the political will to act decisively against them was all that was needed.

The party expressed concern over the rising wave of attacks, kidnappings and killings across the country, describing the situation as a threat to national security and the survival of the nation's democracy.

In addition, the YPP declared its support for the creation of state police, describing it as a necessary step towards addressing the country's security challenges and improving the effectiveness of law enforcement at the grassroots level.

The party noted that a decentralised policing system would help bridge the gap created by the current centralised structure, which it said has proven inadequate in tackling the security problems confronting the various states.

The YPP, however, called for adequate safeguards to prevent the abuse of state police by political office holders, urging that proper structures and accountability mechanisms be put in place to ensure that such forces serve the interest of the people rather than political interests.

The party further appealed to the Federal Government and the National Assembly to fast-track reforms aimed at strengthening the nation's security architecture, stressing that protecting the lives and property of citizens should be the topmost priority of government.

The YPP urged all stakeholders to support genuine efforts aimed at restoring peace and security across the country, while calling on Nigerians to remain united in the fight against terrorism and other forms of criminality.
