Police Probe Killing Of Ex-Ogun Broadcaster, Security Guard
Ogun Police have launched an investigation into the killing of retired broadcaster Kitan Oyesiku and her security guard after both were found dead at her residence.
The Ogun State Police Command has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the killing of a renowned broadcaster and retired staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), Mrs Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard.
Oyesiku, 67, and her security guard were reportedly killed by unknown assailants in the early hours of Sunday at her residence in Agodo community along the Abeokuta–Siun–Sagamu Expressway in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The tragic incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
According to the police, the incident was reported at the Owode-Egba Divisional Headquarters by a resident of Iyana Agodo Village who alerted authorities after noticing suspicious activities around the deceased’s residence.
Babaseyi explained that detectives were immediately deployed to the scene to assess the situation and commence investigations.
“Police detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, where preliminary assessment revealed signs of forced entry and disturbance,” the statement said.
During a search of the premises, investigators discovered the body of the security guard inside the security post, while Oyesiku’s corpse was later found within her apartment.
The police also observed that the deceased’s vehicle was missing from the residence, raising suspicions that the attackers may have fled with it after carrying out the crime.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, ordered a full-scale investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killings and bring those responsible to justice.
The command stated that surveillance operations and intelligence-driven investigations had been intensified across relevant locations as part of efforts to track down the perpetrators.
“An intensive investigation is ongoing to unravel the facts, track down and apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous act, while ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice,” the police said.
The command also extended its condolences to the family of the deceased, OGTV, members of the media community and others affected by the tragedy.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Ogun State Chapter, Mrs Oluwaseun Boye, described Oyesiku’s death as shocking, devastating and callous, noting that the retired senior programme producer made significant contributions to broadcasting and public communication in the state.
