Peter Obi Urges Leaders to Prioritise Education for National Development
Peter Obi has urged Nigerian leaders to prioritise investment in education, particularly the training of healthcare professionals, saying human capital development remains the foundation for sustainable national growth.
Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on leaders at all levels of government to make education a top priority, arguing that sustained investment in human capital is essential for Nigeria's long-term development.
Obi made the appeal while addressing the management, staff and students of the School of Nursing Sciences, Emekuku, in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State. He stressed that no nation can achieve meaningful progress without investing in education, particularly in the training of healthcare professionals who play a vital role in national development.
According to him, strengthening the education sector would improve the country's healthcare system, create opportunities for young people and enhance economic productivity. He urged students to remain committed to excellence, describing them as future leaders whose knowledge and skills would contribute significantly to the nation's growth.
Obi also emphasised that effective leadership is built on character, competence, capacity and compassion. He maintained that governments must focus on building strong institutions, protecting lives and creating an environment where education can thrive if Nigeria is to realise its development goals.
Reaffirming his longstanding advocacy for increased investment in education and healthcare, Obi said countries that consistently develop their human capital are better positioned to achieve sustainable economic growth and improve the quality of life for their citizens.
