Arabambi Slams N50bn Defamation Suit On Peter Obi, Demands Public Apology

The National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has demanded a public retraction, apology and ₦50 billion in damages from Peter Obi over an alleged defamatory statement made during a podcast interview.

The demand was conveyed through a letter issued by Neplus Ultra Attorneys and signed by Anderson U. Asemota, Peter O. Asimegbe and Stanley C. Eziefulle on behalf of Arabambi.

According to the legal team, the dispute stems from comments allegedly made by Obi during the interview in which he reportedly stated that Arabambi “does not have an address.”

The lawyers described the statement as false, malicious and defamatory, arguing that it portrayed their client as a faceless individual without legitimacy, credibility or standing in public life.

They further alleged that the interview was widely circulated on television stations and digital platforms, exposing Arabambi to public ridicule, embarrassment and reputational harm.

According to the letter, Arabambi has a known residential and business address, maintains recognised professional and political affiliations in Nigeria, and has never been a person whose identity or whereabouts were unknown.

The legal representatives maintained that the alleged publication caused substantial injury to their client’s reputation, dignity, political standing and public image.

Consequently, they demanded that Obi issue an unreserved public apology to be aired on national television, published on his verified social media platforms and carried as full-page advertisements in national newspapers.

In addition to the apology, the lawyers demanded the payment of ₦50 billion as compensation for the alleged damage caused by the statement.

The letter also gave Obi a seven-day ultimatum to comply with the demands, warning that legal proceedings would be initiated if he failed to do so.

As of the time of filing this report, Obi had not publicly responded to the allegations or the demands contained in the letter.

The latest development adds to the growing number of legal and political disputes involving key political figures as activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.
