Buhari’s Greatest Legacy Is Investment In Education — Aisha Buhari
Aisha Buhari says Muhammadu Buhari’s greatest legacy is education as she inaugurates a Computer Science Complex project at Al-Qalam University, Katsina.
Former First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has described education and human capital development as the greatest legacy of her late husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari.
She made the remark on Sunday during the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Computer Science Complex at Al-Qalam University, Katsina.
The project is being funded from the proceeds of the book From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, published to document the late president’s life and years of public service.
Speaking at the event, Aisha Buhari said the project reflects the family’s commitment to preserving Buhari’s legacy through investments in education, knowledge and innovation rather than physical monuments.
According to her, the facility will equip future generations with the digital skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
She described the proposed Computer Science Complex as a lasting tribute to the late president, whose life, she said, was characterised by duty, discipline, integrity and dedication to national development.
Aisha Buhari added that investing the proceeds from the Buhari legacy book in an educational project demonstrates the belief that the greatest memorial is one that creates opportunities for learning and character development.
She also expressed hope that the facility would inspire excellence in teaching, research and innovation while producing graduates capable of contributing to the development of Nigeria and Africa.
The Vice-Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Prof. Nasiru Musa Yauri, described the project as a landmark intervention that would significantly improve the teaching of Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity and Software Engineering.
According to him, the complex will include two 150-seat lecture halls, a 200-seat auditorium, three computer laboratories equipped with 50 computers each, offices for academic staff and other supporting facilities.
Representing Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe commended the Buhari family for sustaining the late president’s ideals through continued investment in education.
The ceremony attracted government officials, traditional rulers, academics, development partners and members of the university community.
Upon completion, the Computer Science Complex is expected to strengthen digital education, research and innovation at Al-Qalam University and enhance its role as a growing centre for technology education in northern Nigeria.
