Pay Taxes, Ground Rents to Sustain Infrastructure Development, Tinubu Tells FCT Residents
President Tinubu has urged FCT residents and businesses to pay taxes and ground rents, saying compliance is vital for funding infrastructure projects and sustaining development across Abuja.
President Bola Tinubu has urged residents and businesses in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to fulfil their tax obligations and pay ground rents, stressing that government revenue remains essential for sustaining infrastructure development across Abuja.
Tinubu made the appeal on Wednesday during the inauguration of the completed Arterial Road N5 linking Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III in the Dape District of Abuja. The project is expected to improve connectivity to several developing communities and enhance access to the Idu Industrial District.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the president said compliance with statutory payments would provide the FCT Administration with the resources needed to execute more development projects.
“To the residents and business owners enjoying this transformation, I urge you to meet your obligations. Pay your taxes. Clear your land fees and ground rents. Your compliance gives the FCT Administration the strength to build more roads like this one,” he said.
Tinubu described the newly completed road as evidence of his administration’s commitment to completing critical projects rather than abandoning them midway. He recalled making a promise during the commissioning of an earlier section of the road in 2025 that the remaining portion would be completed.
According to him, the project, awarded in October 2024, was delivered within schedule and reflects a renewed approach to public infrastructure delivery.
The president noted that the road would significantly improve movement between Dape, Karmo, Gwarinpa, Kado, Mbora and Idu, while boosting economic activities through easier access to industrial and commercial hubs.
He added that the project would help reduce logistics costs for businesses, attract investments and create employment opportunities.
Tinubu also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for driving infrastructure development across Abuja.
Earlier, Wike said project delivery in the FCT had expanded considerably under the current administration. He revealed that while the first anniversary of the administration featured nine days of project commissioning, the second had 19 days, and the third anniversary would witness 31 days of inaugurations.
The minister said infrastructure projects were now reaching satellite communities, not just the city centre, while maintaining that all eligible property owners affected by demolitions connected to the road project were duly compensated.
