NSCDC Secures Conviction of Four Oil Pipeline Vandals in Delta State
The NSCDC has secured the conviction of four pipeline vandals in Delta State, with a Federal High Court sentencing them for conspiracy and tampering with oil installations after proven charges.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has secured the conviction of four individuals for offences relating to oil pipeline vandalism in Delta State, in a case that reinforces ongoing efforts to protect Nigeria’s critical petroleum infrastructure.
According to a statement issued by DSC Anthony Uchenna, the Command Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, the conviction was delivered at the Federal High Court, Asaba, presided over by Justice Olubanjo.
The court found the four accused persons—Sylvania Elvis, Peter Ojichini, Bala Idris Adey, and Joel Bala Emmanuel—guilty of conspiracy and tampering with oil pipelines. Their prosecution followed investigations conducted by intelligence officers of the NSCDC Delta State Command, which linked them to illegal activities targeting oil installations in the region.
Justice Olubanjo ruled that the prosecution successfully proved all essential elements of the charges beyond reasonable doubt, leading to their conviction on multiple counts. The court subsequently sentenced the defendants to imprisonment terms for each count, marking a significant win for law enforcement agencies battling crude oil theft and pipeline sabotage.
The Delta State Commandant of the NSCDC, Chinedu F. Igbo, reiterated the agency’s commitment to safeguarding national economic assets, particularly oil and gas infrastructure which remains vital to Nigeria’s revenue generation.
He warned individuals involved in vandalism and related crimes to desist immediately, stressing that such acts have severe legal consequences and contribute to economic losses and environmental degradation.
Igbo further encouraged youths and residents to take advantage of legitimate empowerment and employment opportunities rather than engaging in criminal activities that endanger their future and the nation’s stability.
He assured that the NSCDC would continue to intensify surveillance, intelligence gathering, and collaboration with other security agencies to curb pipeline vandalism and other economic sabotage across the state and beyond.
The command reaffirmed its resolve to ensure that perpetrators of economic crimes are consistently brought to justice, as part of broader national efforts to secure critical infrastructure and strengthen Nigeria’s oil sector security framework.
