The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement issued on Friday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and around the world, urging citizens to reflect on the values of compassion, humility and service associated with the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others.”

He urged Nigerians to use the holiday to pray for peace, national cohesion and stability, stressing that the responsibility for maintaining unity rests on all citizens.
Tunji-Ojo also appealed to Nigerians to celebrate the occasion peacefully and with mutual respect, while wishing the Muslim community a joyous and peaceful Eid ul Mawlid.
